The ‘Clinique du Grand Renaud’ is fully equipped to cope with critical medical situations. Intensive care is carried out 24 hours a day by a motivated team.
We have many diagnostic tools from the latest technologies or more traditional (video endoscope, gastroscope, ultrasound, digital radiology, electrocardiogram, devices for haematology, biochemistry and blood gases, etc.).
These technologies allow us to follow the evolution of the various cases very closely. Part of the clinic is dedicated to internal medicine and isolation boxes are provided to separate contagious patients.
The present boxes in the clinic allow both the hospitalisation of animals whose health status requires intensive care and enhanced surveillance, and hospitalisation for scheduled surgeries as well as for the period post procedure requiring regular care.
Six hospitalisation boxes are located directly in the consultation room, allowing increased surveillance of the horses.
The yard attached to the main building allows the hospitalisation of horses requiring less intensive supervision.
Two ‘contagious’ boxes are available to separate cases suspected of being infectious to other horses present on-site.
Caring of foals often requires rapid support and careful monitoring.
To this end, the clinic has several boxes that can accommodate mares with foals.
Access to oxygen is present in the ICU as well as essential equipment (heat lamps, cushions, drips, transfusion, cardiac monitoring…).
Our team is accustomed to dealing with foals, even newborn, and the clinics facilities allow surgical procedures if necessary.
The respiratory system is commonly a weak point responsible for poor performance in horses.
The clinic is equipped with an endoscope video providing an image of high quality and fiberscopes to conduct examinations at the yard.
The x-ray machine at the clinic allows images of good resolution of the head and lungs.
Nebulisers are available to ensure optimal treatment of respiratory diseases.
Heart problems are relatively rare in the horse.
Diagnosis is achieved mainly by echocardiography and electrocardiography.
Our ultrasound system offers suitable probes and doppler to illustrate the blood flow. Heart problems can be at the origin of poor performance.
Horses may suffer from neurological disorders such as ‘wobbler’ or head-shaking.
These problems often require a detailed clinical examination but also more specific examinations (cervical x-rays, puncture of cerebrospinal fluid etc…).
If your horse has abnormal behavior (running around, tripping over obstacles, pushes against a wall), he may suffer from a disorder of the nervous system; feel free to talk to a veterinarian.
